CCTV Operator Resume Sample

Surveillance systems are getting more and more high tech and most of them include closed circuit cameras. The individual responsible to monitor the recordings and notify security agents or the police is called a CCTV operator. This is a routine job, where you don’t need any special skills, just the ability to follow a strict routine related to daily activity reporting, incident reporting and minimal image processing (zooming in and out).

CCTV operators should first and foremost be honest and have an impeccable criminal record. As you are not working alone, some communication skills and proof of teamwork abilities can help you make a positive impression. In this job you must be able to rely on your alertness, experience and fast response in crisis situations. The educational requirements are minimal, usually a high school diploma is enough, but if you are assigned to do fieldwork too, you should have some physical training.

When applying and interviewing for a CCTV operator job, a good knowledge of existing technology and some multitasking abilities coordinated by proper judgment can help you get hired.

Tips for CCTV Operators Resumes

Street Wise

Dangerous situations are not always obvious from the first moments and things can escalate quickly. A CCTV operator is expected to be able to identify potential hazards before the outburst and instruct security agents to get to the perimeter before there is a real need for an intervention using brute force. The person holding this position could use some information about non-verbal communication, even if it is not at an academic level, more street wise experience.

Multitasking Skills

This might look as easy as watching TV, but a CCTV operator should be comfortable watching multiple monitors at the same time, for long hours. At the same time, they should keep in contact with security agents patrolling the perimeter via radio and switch between cameras to cover the whole facility.

Technical Skills

Since the CCTV operator uses high tech expensive technology, they should be able to check every day at the beginning of their shift if all the components of the surveillance network are functioning correctly, preventing unwanted incidents. The best CCTV operators are those who have an additional qualification in service and maintenance for the equipment. This job also calls for some data entry skills, recording everything at the end of the shift.
