Financial Secretary Resume Sample

Financial secretaries are in charge of money operations and bank accounts of charitable organizations and churches. This job includes duties such as paying bills, receiving donations, collecting payments from contributors, making bank deposits, keeping records and producing reports related to the way money was spent either on utilities or on charity.

This is a good first job for somebody aiming to get into the financial industry without having earned their bachelor degree yet. It can be done as a volunteer just out of high school with a bit of training and guidance, or could be fit for somebody with an Associate’s degree. It is more important to be highly organized, good with numbers and having accuracy in working with money and papers. Since this means handling cash, integrity and ethical behavior are also important, along with good communication and teamwork.

In this job you will interact with people either bringing money to your organization or in need of help. Either way you are required to be courteous, polite, and helpful. Why not show a bit of empathy, even if you have a technical duty to perform? You need to inform people about the status of their checks, if they have been processed or not, issue receipts for the received money or communicate with aid receivers.

Administrative duties

Apart from handling money and payments you will most likely perform other clerical duties such as answering phones and e-mails following general business etiquette rules, writing thank you letters to donors, updating financial records and archiving papers from past months. Preparing financial statements and the balance sheet also falls within your monthly duties and requires attention to details. Highlight any previous experience in similar tasks.

Accounting and legal

Even if you work for a charitable institution, you still need to be aware of accounting rules and regulations and any recent changes in legal previsions. Try to keep up to date by reading and mention in your resume the standards and useful laws you are familiar with to prove that you know how to save a few pennies by taking advantage of tax exemptions and fiscal facilities.
