Supervision

Since small children are always running around, playing and prone to injuring themselves, your role will be to keep them entertained in a supervised way, either when the main teacher is busy doing something else, or if the class is numerous enough, at the same time. You will have duties similar to those of a babysitter, just that you will be watching after 10-15 kids at the same time. Having imagination to keep them paying attention to you helps, since that way they are less likely to go around, exploring on their own.

Playing

At that age any learning is done by imitation and by playing. Being child-like yourself helps, so as you don’t get bored doing sometimes simple stuff like counting until they learn the numbers or singing the color song over and over again. You need to check in with the head teacher to get your share of assignments for which you either come up with your own activities, or learn proposed activities from more experienced teachers. Whatever you do, try not to take yourself too seriously.

Positive thinking

Very young children and animals tend to have a heightened perception of the adults’ mental disposition and copy it or react to it in some way. If you are generally a worried person or have some trouble in your life, it is better to seek another career. Working with children requires a huge amount of positive energy to cope with everyday situations and to be able to bring a smile on their faces.
