Tips for Accounting Controller Resumes

Account management

The daily duties of an account controller include managing company accounts in a responsible way: processing payroll before pay date, checking receivables and accounts payable, clearing debts before expiration dates to avoid penalties, checking cash and online transactions and comparing with existing documents.

This means that controllers are expected to be highly organized individuals, who can maintain a clear system of documents and their flow, both in the central headquarters and in subsidiaries, if applicable. Following a strict chart of duties and recording everything in the IT system is part of a job well done.

Reporting and compliance

One of the most important tasks of a controller is ensuring compliance to both internal and federal rules and regulations regarding tax filings, end-of-year reports and other documents.

Reporting duties must include financial analysis, cost control, drawing budgets and identifying potentially dangerous trends.

Teamwork

The accounting controller is part of the financial team and works with accountants, financial interns, auditors, CPAs and treasurers. They need to be good team players to divide the work and responsibilities, as well as to know how to share credits when the company is on the right track.
