How to Write a Sales Manager Professional Resume
The sales industry is extremely competitive, so our candidate has opened his resume with a strong statement of experience and personal qualities. Numbers and other specifics appear later on in the resume; the professional summary is a way to introduce yourself as a hard-working, proactive individual.
Skills and Abilities
This section is the place to give an overview of your skills; our candidate has opened the section by noting his closing abilities and desire to motivate colleagues. Even though his experience section does not include management, he is showing that he possesses the qualities that employers are likely to want in a sales manager.
Again, sales can be a tough field, so concentrate on using lots of action verbs that show how you have taken initiative in the past and do not give up at the first setback.
Experience
A good sales manager is most likely a good salesman as well, so it’s important to be specific with figures in the experience section. How many new clients did you bring to your last company? Where did you rank among other salespeople? This information is extremely important, as it’s proof that you possess the skills you mentioned in the previous section.
Along with raw sales skill, sales managers need to be able to motivate their staff through smooth patches and rough patches, congratulating them but also counseling them during tough times. This is where a manager’s wider people skills come into play, so make note of roles that required you to be empathetic, motivational or disciplinary; sales managers must show all of these qualities at various points throughout their careers.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree may be advantageous, especially if it is related to the product or service you are selling. However, sales as an industry is still based on people skills so a strong background with proven results is extremely important.
